As the model name suggests, the legendary “cold-air grabbing” Shaker not only looks good with its Satin Black center-mounted hood scoop, snorkeling up from the engine compartment, it also directs cooler air back into the HEMI® V-8 engine. And like the original 1970 Challenger R/T with the Shaker hood, the new 2014 model continues the Dodge tradition of an engine-mounted hood scoop that “shakes” with the powertrain’s movement.
Designed for muscle-car buffs who can’t help but tinker with their toys, the Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker features the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine producing over 400 lb.-ft. of torque, with a functional Shaker hood with Mopar cold-air intake, conical air filter and optimized air box for improved airflow and performance. Lift the hood and enthusiasts will also be treated to an under-hood “Shaker” badge – reminiscent of the 1970s original.
In addition to its driver-selectable sport-mode powertrain calibration, performance-tuned suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and steering calibration, the Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker includes the Super Track Pak, with high-performance steering gear, brake linings and monotube shock absorbers, P245/45R20 Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car three-season tires and three-mode electronic stability control (ESC) with “full off” mode. All-season performance tires are available at no extra charge.

The new engine setup provides a new factory-designed foundation to maximize three all-new Dodge “Scat Packages,” enabling customers to unleash even more power from their Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker.
For a dynamically striking look, a new “Shaker style” Satin Black hood, roof and deck-lid stripe graphics visually translate this Dodge Challenger model’s name, while a Satin Black deck-lid spoiler provides the added downforce needed for 155 mph max-speed runs. For contrast, a body-color grille surround and Gloss Black fuel-filler door are added, while all-new 20 x 8-inch polished-face aluminum wheels with black pockets and a satin “matte” clear coat feature a sculptured five-spoke design. For added detail, “Shaker” badges flank both sides of the hood scoop, while “HEMI” fender badges and a new “Challenger” grille badge in classic script completes the iconic exterior.
On the inside, the new Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker features a unique three-spoke flat-bottom leather-wrapped performance steering wheel with black accent finish and integrated vehicle controls. Corresponding with the steering wheel is a unique “K-Black” painted instrument panel and center-console bezel for a discrete look. Matching the “Shaker” numbered dash plaque are door bolsters with graduated accent stitching that mirrors the logo’s artistic reverberation. High-performance front seats with aggressive bolsters in premium Nappa Leather in Dark Slate Gray with Sepia accent stitching or Radar Red with Radar Red stitching, feature the “Shaker” logo embroidered on the seat back, along with unique graduated horizontal plow-throughs. For additional detail, the center console armrest is also leather wrapped and finished with accent thread. The aluminum pistol-grip shifter mated to a track-proven Tremec six-speed manual transmission is standard, while a black leather-wrapped shift-knob and die-cast paddle shifters on the back of the steering wheel are available for those who opt for the performance-tuned five-speed automatic.
Adding to the customized interior environment, with one press of the start button, the Shaker logo appears on the available 6.5-inch Uconnect touchscreen.
The new 2014 Challenger R/T Shaker will arrive at Dodge dealerships in the first-quarter of 2014 with pricing for this very well-equipped model starting at just $36,995 U.S. MSRP ($37,495 with the custom one-of-a-kind hood-to-tail stripes), representing a walk of only $2,500 from the Challenger R/T Classic for all of the unique features of this limited production model.

Shakin’ it up | It may not be a Hellcat, but it’s big, it’s orange, it’s loud and it’s fast.
As we anticipate the arrival of the all-new 2015 SRT Challenger on the Canadian media fleet, I was able to give one final goodbye to the outgoing model. Not any regular one, the Chrysler Group handed me the keys to a 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker. As soon as I picked up my Header Orange Clearcoat tester, I knew that there would be one question I would be asked repeatedly throughout my test week. “Is that the Hellcat?” I could not have been more correct – I was asked this question at least once each time I had the car out.
No, this is not the Hellcat. The 707-horsepower fire-breathing monster known as the Hellcat will be the flagship model in the redesigned 2015 Challenger lineup. The “Shaker” package driven here adds $5,000 to the Challenger and adds a Shaker hood, unique striping throughout the body, a fully functional Shaker intake, an appearance package all around and 20” polished aluminum wheels. It also adds everything on the Super Track Pac, which includes sharper steering, bigger brakes, special suspension, a three-mode stability control system and Goodyear Eagle tires. This thing means business.
The Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger now rule the American muscle car game. Over the past ten years or so, each of these cars has gone retro and pays tribute to their ancestors from the 1960s and 1970s. In my opinion, the Challenger has always won in the looks department. The other two cars look great, but the Dodge does the best job at paying homage to the 1970 model. It’s not necessarily pretty car, but definitely stands out from the crowd and looks big, mean, and menacing in any environment it’s put in. This Shaker model sounds the part too – the exhaust note is throaty and is unmistakably a muscle car.
It doesn’t just look the part either; the Challenger R/T has the numbers to back its evil stance. The 5.7L HEMI V8 puts out 375 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Oh yeah, and when you step on it, you can see the intake actually twist through the gap in the Shaker hood. My tester was equipped with a Tremec 6-speed manual and the pistol-grip shifter. Of the three muscle cars currently available, the Challenger is the only one that comes with a proper shifter that mimics those of the 1970s. It has short throws and is very easy to modulate, but the clutch is heavy and feels proper for a car of this style. I left the ESC on most of the time, because the R/T Shaker has enough power to get the rear tires skittish almost anywhere in the first three gears. This car is seriously quick.
Challenger enthusiasts may notice that this isn’t the 6.1L SRT motor, and they would be very correct. There have been rumours that next year’s Shaker model will be equipped with the larger motor, but I’m more than happy with this one for now. It’s rear-wheel-drive, and in Toronto’s cold climate, I wouldn’t really hesitate to put a solid set of winter tires on this model and drive it year-round. Those who buy the Shaker model probably won’t, as it’s a limited-production car, but with a regular Challenger R/T, this would be no issue at all. It would be a bit slippery in the worst storms of the year, but this is a car that will keep a smile on your face year round.
This is a muscle car, and its fuel economy reflects that. Because this is the previous-generation Challenger, there is no cylinder deactivation, so all eight cylinders are firing at all times. On premium fuel, I averaged 14.1L/100km on a combined city/highway cycle. The R/T can get away with regular fuel if you really want it to, but much like me, I doubt real enthusiasts will do anything less than pamper their Challenger. One longer highway run I managed to get a 10.2L/100km number, which isn’t really bad at all when you consider that typical premium commuter cars such as the Audi S4 do similarly on the highway.
As-tested, my Challenger R/T Shaker came out to $53,000, right in line with a comparable Camaro 2SS or Mustang GT. The interior on this car does feel just as mean as the exterior, but there are some things that feel a bit aged. Of course, this “problem” is already fixed as the new refreshed car is on its way as I’m writing this. My car came with a 6.5” UConnect infotainment system with navigation, Bluetooth, and iPod connectivity. This isn’t the newer Garmin-sourced unit in newer Chrysler models, and it does show its age. The car has beefy, comfortable heated leather seats, a power sunroof (a welcome addition in a muscle car), HID headlights, and even a 0-100km/h timer in the instrument cluster. The equipment list is great, but overall the interior of the Challenger does feel a bit outdated.

So far as I see, the 28S is a package for the R/T Plus Shaker, not the R/T Shaker. Also, an automatic transmission is an option separate from packages. You can get a 28S package with a manual or an A8.

The Dodge Challenger is the truest to its roots of the current Detroit 3 muscle cars hands down. The Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang do feature some retro influences, but the Challenger feels like it drove into Bill and Ted’s phone booth and travelled straight here from 1970.

Longer than the Hyundai Genesis sedan and wider than a Chevrolet Impala, the big Dodge features classic pony car design elements like a flat front-end, sunken grill, quad headlights, a long hood and a Coke bottle body and full width taillights. The Challenger already oozes road presence and for 2014 are going up a notch with the addition of the R/T Shaker package.
Unmistakable Hood Scoop
Front and center, literally, is the semi-functional “Shaker” hoodscoop. Mimicking the Hemi shaker scoop from the 1970 Challenger, the new scoop has twin air intakes that funnel fresh air under the hood. However, unlike the old carbureted Challenger that fed the air directly into the air cleaner it was attached to, the new scoop crams air into a tube that performs a 180 degree turn and dumps it back at the cone air filter found at the front of the car. There are no performance gains with the Shaker package, just coolness points.
Further dressing up the R/T Shaker’s exterior are a body colored surround on the grille, a flat black rear spoiler, an old school black fuel-filler cap, unique wheels, shaker badges and a set of black vinyl strips that run the length of the car. The Challenger is one of the few cars on the market today that can get away with racing stripes and actually looks a bit naked without a decal package of some kind applied to it.
Of Course There’s a HEMI
Not only does R/T Shaker look like a 5/4ths scale 1970 Challenger, but it drives eerily close to one as well. Under hood is the same 5.7-liter HEMI V8 as found in the regular R/T. A choice of transmissions are available, a five-speed automatic or a six-speed manual. By selecting the manual like we did for our test vehicle, power gets bumped slightly over the automatic with official output numbers pegged at 375 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. As an added bonus, manual transmission Challenger R/Ts also gets a limited-slip differential and 3.92 rear gears for quicker acceleration.
The R/T Shaker is a heavy car tipping the scales at over 4,100 lbs. But, 410 lb-ft can be persuasive and the Challenger pulls in first through third gear. By fourth, things begin to taper off and sixth gear is really just meant for cruising. The Shaker makes a nice hearty V8 roar under acceleration, but it could be much louder.
Gears engage with more precision and ease than I expected them to in such a burley muscle car. Once in gear though, the shift lever does offer a ton of side-to-side play. In contrast, the one the one part of the Challenger that is supposed to shake – the “Shaker” hood scoop – doesn’t really. It pulls to the right when the gas is hit and is kind of cool to watch as a passenger during quick acceleration runs, but at idle it just sits there.
A Muscle Car, Not a Sports Car
By selecting the R/T Shaker option, the Super Track Pack is automatically included. This bolsters the Challenger’s steering, brakes and shock absorbers, but we don’t feel it. Even with the upgrades, the Challenger’s steering is incredibly loose. In a corner, it relates nothing the front tires are doing to the driver. Maybe Dodge went a little too far retrofying the Challenger as 1970s era steering precision seems to have snuck its way into the car.
The tires themselves do provide grip, but the sloppy steering, massive weight and copious body roll reminds the driver this is a straight line car and not a track terror. And when a little light rain makes the roads greasy, the Challenger feels ready to participate in the Formula Drift championship.
Another Challenger trait strait from the 1970s is fuel mileage. Alright, it’s not that bad, but the R/T Shaker is a big car with a big engine and fuel economy is officially rated at 16 MPG city and 23 MPG highway. During our time with the car we averaged 14.9 MPG, but our inability to control the juvenile impulse to stab the accelerator and bring that HEMI to life is more to blame than the car itself.
Big and Small Inside
Despite the cars size, headroom isn’t great. Our six-foot tall tester found his hair brushed on the roof liner while driving. The seats on the other hand are massive. Obviously designed to be comfortable for larger drivers, they’re too wide for my skinny torso.
Highlights inside the R/T Shaker include the pistol grip shifter and killer Harman Kardon sound system. There is so much power and so much bass pounding out of this sound system thanks to a pair of subwoofers hidden under the trunk floor.

Of course, the Shaker package also adds some unique touches inside like a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, a black painted instrument panel and center-console bezel, a “Shaker” numbered dash plaque and a “Shaker” logo embroidered on the front seat backs.
Pricing begins at $38,490 after destination charges while our test vehicle came in at $43,470 thanks to the addition of HID lights, a sunroof, the Harman Kardon sound system and navigation.
The Verdict
Despite its shortcomings, there is something undeniably cool about the Challenger R/T Shaker. Looking out over the massive hood and seeing the shaker scope poking through with lettering glued to the side is closest I’ll ever get to driving in the 1970s. And for those who do remember driving in the era of eight track tapes and Watergate, it’s probably the closest they’ll ever get to reliving their youth.
The Challenger has always been a big, flashy car that gets noticed everywhere it goes. Every kid we passed in the R/T Shaker would point excitedly and that may be the secret charm of the Challenger; it’s the embodiment of classic American swagger that speaks to the inner child in all of us.

Injecting a fresh shot of heritage into the Challenger lineup, the new 2014 R/T Shaker model features unique throwback muscle-car cues that link directly to Dodge brand’s performance legacy.
As the model name suggests, the legendary “cold-air grabbing” Shaker not only looks good with its Satin Black center-mounted hood scoop, snorkeling up from the engine compartment, it also directs cooler air back into the HEMI® V-8 engine. And like the original 1970 Challenger R/T with the Shaker hood, the new 2014 model continues the Dodge tradition of an engine-mounted hood scoop that “shakes” with the powertrain’s movement.
Designed for muscle-car buffs who can’t help but tinker with their toys, the Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker features the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine producing over 400 lb.-ft. of torque, with a functional Shaker hood with Mopar cold-air intake, conical air filter and optimized air box for improved airflow and performance. Lift the hood and enthusiasts will also be treated to an under-hood “Shaker” badge – reminiscent of the 1970s original.
In addition to its driver-selectable sport-mode powertrain calibration, performance-tuned suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and steering calibration, the Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker includes the Super Track Pak, with high-performance steering gear, brake linings and monotube shock absorbers, P245/45R20 Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car three-season tires and three-mode electronic stability control (ESC) with “full off” mode. All-season performance tires are available at no extra charge.

The new engine setup provides a new factory-designed foundation to maximize three all-new Dodge “Scat Packages,” enabling customers to unleash even more power from their Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker.
For a dynamically striking look, a new “Shaker style” Satin Black hood, roof and deck-lid stripe graphics visually translate this Dodge Challenger model’s name, while a Satin Black deck-lid spoiler provides the added downforce needed for 155 mph max-speed runs. For contrast, a body-color grille surround and Gloss Black fuel-filler door are added, while all-new 20 x 8-inch polished-face aluminum wheels with black pockets and a satin “matte” clear coat feature a sculptured five-spoke design. For added detail, “Shaker” badges flank both sides of the hood scoop, while “HEMI” fender badges and a new “Challenger” grille badge in classic script completes the iconic exterior.
On the inside, the new Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker features a unique three-spoke flat-bottom leather-wrapped performance steering wheel with black accent finish and integrated vehicle controls. Corresponding with the steering wheel is a unique “K-Black” painted instrument panel and center-console bezel for a discrete look. Matching the “Shaker” numbered dash plaque are door bolsters with graduated accent stitching that mirrors the logo’s artistic reverberation. High-performance front seats with aggressive bolsters in premium Nappa Leather in Dark Slate Gray with Sepia accent stitching or Radar Red with Radar Red stitching, feature the “Shaker” logo embroidered on the seat back, along with unique graduated horizontal plow-throughs. For additional detail, the center console armrest is also leather wrapped and finished with accent thread. The aluminum pistol-grip shifter mated to a track-proven Tremec six-speed manual transmission is standard, while a black leather-wrapped shift-knob and die-cast paddle shifters on the back of the steering wheel are available for those who opt for the performance-tuned five-speed automatic.
Adding to the customized interior environment, with one press of the start button, the Shaker logo appears on the available 6.5-inch Uconnect touchscreen.
The new 2014 Challenger R/T Shaker will arrive at Dodge dealerships in the first-quarter of 2014 with pricing for this very well-equipped model starting at just $36,995 U.S. MSRP ($37,495 with the custom one-of-a-kind hood-to-tail stripes), representing a walk of only $2,500 from the Challenger R/T Classic for all of the unique features of this limited production model.

Подвеска и тормоза.
Не автомобиль установлены 20″ дюймовые легкосплавные 5-спицевые диски (ширина диска 8″ дюймов), тормозная система полностью дисковая, использует четырехпоршневые суппорта. Всесезонные шины P245/45R20 Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car имеют низкий протектор и жесткую структуру. 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker «заряжен» тремя режимами электронного контроля устойчивости (ESC), которая может быть полностью отключена для более активного участия водителя.

The first time Dodge used the moniker “shaker†was in the 1970s when the challenger’s special hood was unveiled. The “Shaker” has made a comeback.
The 2014 Dodge Challenger RT Shaker features unique throwback muscle-car cues that are bound to be a notable addition to the Challenger lineup.
Only 1000 units of these will be available.
As the name suggests, the RT Shaker has the legendary “shaker†hood popping out at the center. The new rendering receives an updated exterior design and scant packages that give it improved engine output.

Engine & Performance
The Challenger Shake comes with a 5.7 liter, HEMI® V8 engine under the hood. In order to improve performance and airflow, the engine is aided by an optimized air box, conical air filter, and a Mopar cold-air intake system.
The performance specs of the car are yet to be released; however, it is believed that the RT Shaker model will have a top speed of 155 miles per hour.
Exterior
Just like the 1970s model, the 2014 Challenger Shaker has a satin black “shaker hoodâ€, gloss-black fuel filler door and a body color grille surround. In order to increase the down force when traveling at high speeds, Dodge has added a new deck-lid, satin black spoiler.
The RT Shaker comes in six main colors; vibrant header orange, TorRed, Pitch black, Bright white, Plum crazy and billet silver metallic.
Interior
The upgraded interior of the RT Shaker features high-performance seats wrapped in Radar Red leather with Radar Red stitching or Dark Grey Nappa leather with Sepia accent stitching.
A shaker logo is embroidered at the back of each seat. The new Shaker also receives a performance steering wheel with a leather finish and integrated car controls.
This RT has a unique center-console bezel and instrument panel. It comes with a 6.5 inch touchscreen navigation system that goes with a console armrest wrapped in leather.
